GIRL DROWNED IN RELLI RIVER NEAR KALIMPONG

Webdesk, TNI Kalimpong, 25th September, 2015: Lakshmi Gupta (26) a Haat-bazar dweller was drowned and swept few meters away in Relli River yesterday around 4:30 pm. The source said that Gupta along with her friends had gone to the river to take bath in the evening, they tried crossing the river by holding hands making a human chain to reach the another shore. They reached, took bath and washed their clothes on the shore and tried crossing the river by creating a human chain again, that’s when Gupta’s feet slept and fell in the water. She was drowned wherein the other hand the waves were strong which swept her and her friends could not get hold of her. Her body has drifted few meters away from the spot and was later found stuck in a broken tree which was lying horizontally in the river. The post monsoonal rain along with the monsoonal torrential rain has increased the water level in Relli which is 7-8 kilometers (approximately) from heat bazaar. Her body was recovered by the local youths around 8 pm, the same was taken for the post-mortem today and was later handed over to her parents.
